UNR Community Box Progress Update

Ed & Tim outside the Box on Nov 22
The photo shows the state of construction of the  UNR Community Box as of November 22, following the review of the box by Trey Puckett, the Canada Hall Resident Director.
The Tools & Techniques SIG agreed to build a community box for UNR's Canada Hall. The build had gone far enough to review with Trey Puckett for his approval. This review was at Ed Campau's shop in Verdi. These photos reflect the state of the build at that time. Ed is the lead craftsman on this build. Tim Rockey (Woodchucks Vice President) is the point of contact with UNR.

What is left in the build: installing a back,  finishing the legs, mounting the plexiglass, mounting a lock, and creating some molding detail, and lots of sanding.

Background
At July's general meeting, UNR's resident director of the Canada Hall undergraduate housing building presented a request for the Woodchucks to build a Community Box that would hold free food, hygiene items, school supplies for student residents who are experiencing food insecurity. Canada Hall is one of nine undergraduate housing buildings on campus.
UNR has been addressing this food insecurity through a Pack Provision food pantry service. You can read an article about this service here About Pack Provisions.
The pack Provision service is located on the third floor of the Student Union, which is half a mile away, about a 10-12 minute walk. The food pantry has daily hours but is not open 24 hours, 7 days a week. as the Canada Hall is.  Therefore, have a Community Box of food pantry items at the resident would reach more students.
At that meeting, Ed Campau, TNT's leader, said it is worth considering but please provide some idea of the design.

Some three month's later, at the TNT's SIG meeting on October 27th, Trey attends and says he has approval and presents a preliminary specification for the Community Box.  Using the white board, a drawing is made and alterations are suggested. TNT accepts the challenge and asks that after some preliminary work, Trey visits again.

At the November 17th TNT meeting, Ed Campau presents a carcus he built in hardwood taken from the shop's shelves.  Ed had milled the boards, made panels, and then assembled the panels into sides, top/bottoms, and shelves.  He lead a discussion on how to finish the carcus. Ed was far enough along that a review by Trey was appropriate.

Ed then added the face, a door frame, and some legs prior to Trey's visit on November 22nd.
